![]() Alex Rider goes on another tremendously dangerous case. “Never Say Die” means “Don’t Give Up”, and in this book, Alex has to solve a big mystery, and he won’t give up! Is Jack alive? Alex Rider is in America with his foster family. He suddenly gets an email that he guesses might be from Jack Starbright…or is it? He gets the first flight to Cairo and then goes to Siwa, where he goes back to his and Jack’s cell, looking for clues. Will SCORPIA fail again? This book is brilliant, because Anthony Horowitz puts lots of information about places in the sentences, so you can actually picture it as though it were real. At one point, I thought I was watching a film in my head, that’s how clearly I could see things. My favourite setting is Smoke City, but I’m not telling you what that is, because I really think you should read the book. Alex is an enthusiastic, adventurous, brave and clever agent, who “Never Says Die”. This book would be suitable for 10-12 year-olds, but I really enjoyed it, too!

![]() S.C.R.E.A.M. – The Mummy’s Revenge is a spooky story by Andrew Beasly. It is about two children, a boy and a girl, who solve supernatural cases. If you’re wondering, S.C.R.E.A.M. stands for “Supernatural Crimes, Rescues, Emergencies And Mysteries”. The case in this book is about a mummy risen up from its tomb, and lots of robberies are happening. The mummy’s dream is to become immortal. S.C.R.E.A.M. is part of the London Police, and nobody is better at fighting supernatural crimes than them. The book is set around Victorian times, with gas lamps and stuff. There are lots of supernatural, squishy, scary things happening. The book describes everything just right, so you can picture everything in your head really well. My personal favourite character was Charley. Charley is part of S.C.R.E.A.M. and an extraordinary scientist – she is really clever. This book is a really good book, and I would recommend it to anybody who likes crime novels. It’s actually a series, and I would like to read the next one. I think the age range would be 9 to about 15, and there were bits I didn’t want to read just before going to bed. ![]() Who thought of that name? ‘Just Call Me Spaghetti-Hoop Boy’ is a really good book by Lara Williamson. It’s about a boy called Adam, who is adopted. I never thought about what it feels like to be adopted. I guess it’s different for everybody, but for Adam, he is very confused about life, and he has lots of questions for his biological Mum, for example why she abandoned him. Adam wants to be a super-hero to make other people happy, and his friend at school, called Tiny Eric, is very clever. For example, when Adam asks Tiny Eric to draw a picture of him as a super-hero, Tiny Eric just draws a picture of ‘normal’ Adam, but there is some Polish writing underneath…what will it mean? I like this book because it shows a lot of truth about who you can be and what you can do. I think this was written from the heart, because when you read it, it makes you both happy and sad. The moral of the story is that you can change the world, whoever you are. Whether you are young or old, big or small, you can change the world around you. This is an amazing book by Holly Webb. It’s about a girl called Polly, and a statue that can turn into a wolfhound. The wolfhound is called Rex. He is the guardian of the Penhallow Hall. There are two people that have awakened the two guard dogs of Penhallow Hall. Rex is one of them, and another one is Magnus. Polly and somebody else re-awaken them.
I liked this book because it’s full of excitement, and it even makes you start reading it just from looking at the front cover. I have been reading non-stop for two hours. This is the best book ever, and it is imperative that you read it. I think the age range is about 9 or over because there are a lot of things to understand on one page, even though there aren’t many words on one page, because the print is quite big. I hope there’s a book two, I even recommended it to my Mum! I made a video of me reading a bit of The Moonlight Statue for International Read To Me Day, and Holly Webb posted it on her website!! http://www.holly-webb.com/thank-you-toby/ |
AuthorMy name is Toby, and I am 10 years old. I have written letters to every country in the world - you can read about that adventure at my other website, Writing to the World. Some letters are published in a book called "Dear World, How Are You?". In order to learn more about the countries I am writing to, I am reading books, and I am reviewing them here. I also review books for LoveReading4Kids, and those reviews are on here, too. I am trying to find one book set in each country, or by an author from that country. My Mum is doing the same for grown-up books, and I am reviewing mine, and she is reviewing hers. So whether you are a child or a grown-up, you can explore the world with us :) Archives
